Ending DACA blocked
Evidence grade A: A jury or court decided, and the appeals are over.
What happened
On June 18, 2020, in DHS v. Regents of the University of California, the Supreme Court ruled 5 to 4 that his administration’s move to end DACA, which shields about 700,000 people brought to the U.S. as children, was “arbitrary and capricious.” Chief Justice Roberts wrote the opinion.
Where it stands
Final. The ruling turned on procedure; it did not decide whether a president may end the program with a proper explanation.
Harm
Livelihood. Recipients faced loss of work permits and protection from deportation had the rescission stood.
His response
He wrote: “Do you get the impression that the Supreme Court doesn’t like me?”
